A simple trick to create more space on your kitchen countertop

The days where hooks were only to hang up jackets are over. Put them in your kitchen to create order and aesthetic.

Home styling pros know how to think outside the box. To make spaces look tidier, they’re happy to co-opt the odd accessory for unintended purposes. Most recently, I’ve noticed that coat hooks are increasingly being used as a storage solution in the kitchen. No, not for jackets; for cooking spoons, cutting boards and oven cloths.

What I particularly love about this is that you can always see the stuff you use often and set visual accents. With a hook rail like the Coat Rack by House Doctor, you gain additional storage space, because it doubles as a shelf. Pros also like to create additional space by hanging baskets on wall hooks, freeing up space on the floor.

To jump on the bandwagon, you’ll have to be able to do one thing above all – and that’s make up your mind. There are so many beautiful designs to choose from! You can go for many individual coat hooks and group them on the wall. Or you can opt for a hook rail instead. Next, you simply have to identify free spots on your wall. In addition to a wall, the side of your cabinet or kitchenette might also be suitable for mounting hooks. Spots like that are especially great for having what you need at hand – or for hiding your not-so-beautiful kitchen gadgets.
