Honor Magic V2: The thin foldable smartphone is coming to Europe
by Jan Johannsen
Porsche Design has created a special version of the Magic V2 folding smartphone for Honor.
Honor is celebrating the European launch of its Magic V2 folding smartphone with a special version. The car manufacturer's product design department has left its mark on the "Porsche Design | Honor Magic V2 RSR".
Not surprisingly, Porsche Design draws inspiration for the look of the Magic V2 RSR from motor racing. The back of the smartphone is reminiscent of the bonnet of a Porsche 911. The agate grey used is a classic Porsche colour.
At its thinnest point, the smartphone with Porsche Design measures 9.9 millimetres when folded. This makes it just as thick as the artificial leather version of the conventional Magic V2. Although the borrowings from the automotive sector add three grams to the weight, at 234 grams in total it remains comparatively light for a foldable smartphone. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, for example, comes in at 253 grams and is 13.4 millimetres thick when folded.
One difference to the Magic V2 is the coating on the display of the Porsche version. According to the manufacturer, it is the first smartphone with a coating called "NanoCrystal Shield". It is said to have a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. This corresponds to quartz. Accordingly, neither knives nor a steel file - and therefore no keys - should be able to scratch the material. However, the new material only protects the outer display. The Honor is therefore better protected when closed. If you open it up, you still expose the weak point in terms of resistance, the foldable display.
The features of the Magic V2 RSR differ only slightly from the conventional version of the foldable smartphone. With Porsche Design, you get twice as much storage space with one terabyte. The displays, battery, cameras and processor are identical. Just like the titanium alloy hinge, which was produced using 3D printing technology. It is designed for over 400,000 folds and has also achieved this in tests.
The manufacturer has issued a recommended retail price of €1999.99 for the Honor Magic V2 in Germany. Our colleagues from the category are already working on adding it to our range
Honour intends to announce the price and availability of the Magic V2 in Porsche Design "shortly".
