Apple delivers the "Journal" diary app and prepares the iPhone 15 Pro to record 3D videos for the Vision Pro VR glasses.
Apple has released iOS 17.2. The new version of the iPhone operating system brings several functions to smartphones. While Spatial Videos and new configurations are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro, the Journal app is available to everyone. For older iPhones, the update ensures faster wireless charging.
In Journal, you can not only make your own diary entries. The app also makes suggestions based on the data collected by the iPhone throughout the day. Apple had already introduced it when iOS 17 was first announced, but only released it with the second major update.
Also previously announced and now available are Spatial Videos. However, you can only record stereoscopic 3D videos with the iPhone 15 Pro. Playback devices are not yet available, but Apple plans to release the matching VR glasses in 2024. Until then, content can already be created for the Vision Pro.
A new option for the Action Button is also only available for the iPhone 15 Pro. You can now also assign a translation function to it.
New weather widgets are available for all devices with iOS 17.2 - i.e. from the iPhone XS from 2018. You can now also jump to the first unread message in iMessage and verify contacts. Siri will make it easier to record health data and Airdrop will receive additional sharing options. Apple also claims to have improved the autofill function for filling in PDF files.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 support the new Qi2 standard for wireless charging after the update to iOS 17.2. This means they accept up to 15 watts and the charger does not need to be certified by Apple for MagSafe.
Although Apple included shared playlists in Apple Music and AirPlay support for hotels in the beta version of iOS 17.2. However, the company has postponed both functions until 2024.
Apple has not only provided the iPhone with new software. watchOS 10.2 has been released for the Apple Watch. This should also make it easier to log health data with Siri on the Series 9 and Ultra 2. The option to change watch faces by swiping across the touchscreen has also returned. This had disappeared with watchOS 10.
tvOS 17.2 gives the TV app on Apple's streaming box a new design. There is also a new option in the sidebar for quickly changing profiles.
