iOS 17.3 is here: Apple strengthens anti-theft protection for iPhones
After updating to iOS 17.3, you can activate a new theft protection. This is designed to make it more difficult for unauthorised persons to change data.
Apple has released iOS 17.3 for installation. The new option in the "Protection for stolen devices" settings ensures that Face ID or Touch ID is required more often for unlocking. Knowing the unlock code is less useful to thieves
No access to passwords without a face or fingerprint
If you activate the new security level, it will only work in unknown locations. You should not be disturbed by the restricted access at work or at home. However, if your iPhone is somewhere else, it will require unlocking via Face ID or Touch ID when accessing passwords
Biometric unlocking is also necessary to change the lock code or password for the Apple ID. If the change to one of these two security mechanisms is not made in a familiar location, it will only be implemented after a waiting period of one hour.
After updating to iOS 17.3, your iPhone will probably ask you whether you want to activate protection for stolen devices. If you want to change your decision later, you will find the option in the settings under "Face ID & Code".
Apart from the theft protection, iOS 17.3 offers the "Unity Bloom" wallpaper and shared playlists in Apple Music that match the new "Black Unity" wristband for the Apple Watch. You can invite friends to these, add and remove songs and change the order.
In addition, the support for AirPlay in hotels already announced for iOS 17.0 is coming to devices with iOS 17.3. Apple also claims to have improved accident detection for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15. There are also other, unspecified bug fixes and improvements in the background.
