LEGO Rivendell
10316, LEGO Lord of the Rings, LEGO Rare Sets
LEGO has announced the second large set from the "Lord of the Rings" universe. The Tower of Sauron with the illuminated eye consists of around 5500 pieces and is more than 80 centimetres high.
"The Lord of the Rings" fans can rejoice: LEGO has presented a new set inspired by Tolkien's world-famous Middle-earth trilogy. "Barad-dûr" with the set number 10333 represents the dark fortress of Sauron in Mordor. At the top of the tower is Sauron's spirit in the form of a fiery eye. From here, he monitors events in Mordor and commands his servants throughout Middle-earth. The set is based on the film trilogy by Peter Jackson from 2001 to 2003.
The fortress consists of 5471 pieces and requires some space when completed: at 83 centimetres, it is one of the tallest LEGO sets ever. The base measures 45 x 30 centimetres. The "Barad-dûr" set will be available from 4 June. We will probably have it in the shop around three months later. LEGO's recommended retail prices are 459 euros and 489 francs respectively.
The fortress consists of four stacked modules that can be disassembled for transport. There are four floors inside the fortress. On the ground floor there is an armoury with a torture chamber. A cage with a skeleton is suspended above a lava pool. The main entrance gate to the fortress is said to be automated.
The second floor contains a dining hall reminiscent of the rooms in the watchtower of Cirith Ungol, where Frodo is held captive by the Orcs. On the walls are a cooking area, supplies and shelves.
The third floor houses a throne room. The throne can be opened with a handle. A plinth with a palantir, a "seeing stone", then appears. A map of Middle-earth can also be presented there. According to LEGO, the study room of "Sauron's Mouth" and a tower library with a rotating ladder are located above it.
Sauron's eye, which casts a beam of light onto the surroundings like a spotlight in the third film, has integrated lighting.
The set comes with ten figures. These include Sauron himself, as he appeared before his ring was cut off and he became a ghost. According to LEGO, Elendil's sword is also included in the set. Another figure is "Sauron's Mouth", a character that can only be seen in the Special Extended Edition of the third part of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Five Orcs complete the ranks of the Dark Lord of Mordor's underlings.
In contrast, there are the figures of Frodo with the ring, Sam and Gollum. However, on their journey to Mount Doom to destroy the ring, they don't even get close to the tower. Sam and Frodo can be fitted with Orc helmets. In the film, they wore these helmets so that they could wander through Mordor undetected.
If you want to pass the waiting time with the only other big "Lord of the Rings" LEGO set: We have the "Rivendell" set (10316) with 6167 pieces in the shop. Released in March 2023, Rivendell is where the Fellowship of the Ring decide to go to Mordor and destroy Sauron's ring.
