Nvidia presents GeForce RTX 4080 Super, 4070 TI Super and 4070 Super
Most of the specifications were already known in advance, and now the official presentation at CES will be followed by the prices. Curtain up for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super, 4070 Ti Super and 4070 Super.
Thanks to the official presentation at CES, it is finally clear how much the new RTX 40 Super graphics cards from Nvidia will cost. The GeForce RTX 4080 Super will be launched on 31 January for 999 US dollars. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super will be available on 24 January for 799 US dollars and the GeForce RTX 4070 Super on 17 January for 599 US dollars.
The new graphics cards are a refresh of the RTX 40 series. The previous RTX 4080, which has a recommended retail price of around USD 200 higher, will be replaced by the Super version. This price reduction is likely to be a challenge to AMD. Just like the RTX 4080, the RTX 4070 Ti will also be discontinued. Instead, the RTX 4070 will remain on the market at a price of 549 US dollars.
GeForce RTX 4080 Super
The RTX 4080 Super is especially designed for owners of the RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 2080 Super who want to upgrade their computer. Depending on the game, a performance increase of one to five per cent compared to the RTX 4080 should be possible. An upgrade is therefore not worthwhile for anyone who already has a 4080.
The AD103 chip of the card is no longer limited and offers more shaders or Cuda cores (10,240 instead of 9728). In addition, the memory has become faster at 736 GB/s, but is still 16 gigabytes of VRAM (GDDR6X). The power consumption (TGP) is still up to 320 watts.
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super
The changes to the RTX 4070 Ti Super compared to its predecessor, the 4070 Ti, are more interesting. In addition to the number of Cuda cores (8448 instead of 7680), the VRAM has also increased. This is now 16 gigabytes instead of 12 (GDDR6X) and its memory bus has been upgraded from 192 bits to 256 bits.
The bottom line is that the new Ti Super should deliver around 10 per cent more performance than the non-Super version. And at the same price. The TGP is not increased by the upgrade, it is still up to 285 watts.
GeForce RTX 4070 Super
According to Nvidia, the RTX 4070 Super should be faster than an RTX 3090 and draw less power at the same time.
The only change compared to the previous 4070 version is the number of Cuda cores (7168 instead of 5888). The difference in performance is said to be around 15 per cent. It has a TGP of 220 watts - 20 watts more than the non-super version.
Nvidia will launch its own Founders Edition cards for the RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4070 Super.
