Nvidia's Project G-Assist is designed to help you in games
Project G-Assist is a new AI assistant designed to help you in games. However, you can still play must yourself.
Imagine you're playing a game and can't get any further. Where do you have to go? Or how do I beat this boss? Today you pause the game and consult Google, YouTube or the solution site of your choice. With Project G-Assist and a compatible graphics card, this is no longer necessary. An AI will help you via an in-game chat window
This is a Large Language Model (LLM). It is fed with game data and is designed to help you if you get stuck. Using voice or text input, you ask the artificial intelligence for help on how to progress in the game. But you still have to play the game yourself. So it's not like Nvidia's 1st of April joke in 2017, where the company pretended to present the Geforce GTX G-Assist, which plays for you. The real Project G-Assist is also supposed to help you with performance optimisation and system tuning. In other words, the same thing that the Nvidia app and Geforce Experience already do.
Why does Nvidia think it needs another AI assistant? The company assumes that games today are so complex that many people don't dare to play them.
In a demo with "Ark: Survival Ascended", Nvidia showed what Project G-Assist's assistance could look like. The AI answered questions about creatures, item crafting, lore and difficult bosses. When asked what the best early-game weapon was, the LLM suggested a spear and immediately provided crafting instructions and further details.
Project G-Assist is aware of what is happening in the game. The AI assistant can therefore access information about your current status and give you information based on this. It is not yet clear when the feature will be available. Game developers have to implement it in their works.
