PS5 SSD upgrade: find the right storage solution for you

A PS5’s storage can be expanded with a second SSD. However, you can’t just grab the next best drive off a shelf. To help you out, here’s a list of all compatible models.
Want to increase the storage space of your PS5? No problem. Sony unlocked the PS5’s SSD slot in its last big firmware update. In a few simple steps, you can install an additional SSD with up to 4 terabytes. Find out how to do just that in the (German) article featured below.
What’s nearly more difficult than installation itself is the search for a compatible SSD. Sony is making fastidious demands regarding memory expansion.
Requirements for M2 SSDs

To avoid you having to check for every SSD yourself, here’s a list of officially and unofficially confirmed models. For the latter, I’m relying on various blogs and forums. If you’re unsure, stick with the official models. There are three SSD categories. Fixed ready SSDs, those with oversized heatsinks and those without. Sony recommends using an SSD with a heatsink.
SSDs with matching heatsinks

Seagate FireCuda 530 (officially confirmed)
Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 7000s (officially confirmed)
Samsung 980 Pro (officially confirmed)

We don’t have the following model in our range.
- Adata S70 Gammix Blade
SSDs with oversized heatsinks
For the following models, you’ll have to replace the heatsink with a narrower one.
Corsair MP600 Pro
We don’t have the following models in our range.

- Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus (officially confirmed)
- GALAX HOF Extreme
SSDs without heatsinks
None of the following models have a heatsink. You’ll have to mount one yourself.

If an SSD isn’t equipped with a heatsink or doesn’t fit into the PS5, you can upgrade it.
