That's what I call a makeover: Dyson presents new professional hairdryer
Dyson has launched a new version of its hairdryer: the "Supersonic r". And no, the small R is not a spelling mistake. Find out what the name is all about and whether the "old" hairdryer is now a thing of the past here.
It is smaller, lighter and faster than its predecessor: the new "Supersonic r". On Thursday (8 February), Dyson presented its new hairdryer at New York Fashion Week - in a completely new format. A curved "r". Hence the name. Admit it, it looks funny. A bit like a tool that could also look good on a building site. But what exactly is different now? And who is the XL straw intended for?
This change is here - also in terms of the target group
To start with, the all-clear: you don't need to worry that your "old" Supersonic at home is obsolete. Well, technically it is, but the new model is explicitly aimed at professionals. In other words, your hairdresser or hairdresser. It is designed to meet their needs and make their daily employees' work with a hairdryer more pleasant in many ways. Including the following elements:
Design
The "Supersonic r Professional", as its full name suggests, is 30 per cent smaller, 20 per cent lighter (it weighs 325 grams) and more manoeuvrable thanks to its shape compared to the conventional Supersonic. At least that's what the press release says. Its ergonomic design is intended to counteract the development of work-related illnesses such as carpal tunnel syndrome (caused by overloading the wrist).
Attachments
Intelligent attachments should be able to communicate with the hairdryer. The hairdryer recognises which attachment has just been attached and can adjust the temperature and airflow settings accordingly. It should also be possible to save the last used, manually adjusted settings in the attachments.
Filter
The built-in depth filter consists of a 3D mesh fabric that filters residues from styling products (such as hairspray) out of the air. Thanks to this innovation, the appliance can be used for up to twice as long before the filter requires cleaning.
The Dyson "Supersonic r" will be available in Germany from May exclusively for professional stylists. It is not yet known when it will be available in Switzerland. Nor is it known whether it will also be available in regular stores at a later date.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
