The top 3 fashion-related hacks of 2024
Although I’ve come across countless fashion hacks this year, only a few have proven to be worth their salt. Here are my three favourites.
Some «tips and tricks» provide solutions to problems that nobody has. The ones I’ve listed here, however, are a different breed. They proved to be real game changers for me in 2024 – and they’ll still be must-dos next year.
1. Refreshing Birkenstock insoles
If your Birkenstocks’ insoles are starting to look shabby, there’s a simple trick you can use: sandpaper. Go for a grit size of 180 and you’ll be able to get rid of the dark spots created by sweat and dirt quickly and effectively. Just bear in mind that this trick isn’t suitable to use on smooth leather or EVA insoles.
You’ll find a detailed how-to guide on the technique here:
2. Shortening your trousers from the back
Extra-long, wide-leg trousers are stylish. Well, until the hem looks like a mop, that is. Using safety pins, you can gather up the hem at the back, allowing the trousers to keep their length at the front. This quick trick saves you a trip to the tailor’s, can be adapted to different shoes and saves your trouser hems from dirt, moisture and wear and tear.

3. Hiding your bra neatly
A bra showing through a thin, transparent top can quickly look messy. If you wear a delicate, seamless undershirt in your skin colour underneath, however, the problem’s easily solved. The undershirt conceals the texture and colour of your bra, creating a flawless silhouette without compromising comfort.
I’ve written about the undershirt I prefer using for this here:
Has endless love for shoulder pads, Stratocasters and sashimi, but a limited tolerance for bad impressions of her Eastern Swiss dialect.
