Xiaomi 13T and 13T Pro presented: Leica cameras for all models
Xiaomi is taking an unusual approach with the 13T and 13T Pro: apart from the chipset and memory options, both smartphones have identical features. This also applies to the cameras, in which Leica has its fingers in the pie.
This year, the cooperation between Xiaomi and Leica reaches the T series. The camera manufacturer has helped with the development of the lenses and image processing software. Xiaomi is also making its autumn smartphones waterproof for the first time and - unlike the spring model - is relying on chipsets from Mediatek.
Two smartphones, one camera system
While the Xiaomi 13T Pro is equipped with the Dimensity 9200+, the 13T uses the Dimensity 8200 Ultra. I'm curious to see if you notice any differences in everyday use or in image processing. The 9200+ should perform better in benchmark tests.
Both smartphones have three cameras on the back:
- 50 megapixel, f/1.9, 24mm, Sony IMX707
- 50 megapixel, f/1.9, 50mm
- 12 megapixel, f/2.2, 15mm
Xiaomi only provided information on the built-in sensor for the main camera,
As with the previous Xiaomi smartphones in collaboration with Leica, you can choose between two colour modes for taking pictures. You can also customise them to your liking with the "Custom photo styles". In the viewfinder, you should see the pictures exactly as they will be taken in the end.
For more complex post-processing, the 13T series supports the capture of photos in RAW format. For videos, you can access 10-bit LOG and a built-in LUT preview. 4K videos are possible at 60 fps and 8K videos at 24 fps.
On the front of the Xiaomi 13T (Pro), you are looking at a 6.67-inch display. Its peak brightness of 2600 nits is identical to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The refresh rate reaches up to 144 hertz.
Waterproof and optionally glossy or matt
Of course, the camera bump is noticeable on the back. You have the choice between a very glossy black model. The green version is slightly more matt, but is also made of plastic. Xiaomi uses artificial leather for the blue model, which is now being promoted as vegan leather. The 13T and 13T Pro are the first smartphones in the T series to be IP68 waterproof. This means they can survive 30 minutes in 1.5 metres of water without damage.
The 5000 mAh battery of the new smartphones should be fully charged in 19 minutes via a 120 watt power supply unit. Android 13 runs on the new smartphones ex works. Xiaomi is still installing its MIUI 14 user interface on top. The manufacturer promises to deliver Android updates for four years and security updates for five years.
Price and availability
The Xiaomi 13T is only available with eight gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage space. With the 13T Pro, you can choose between 12 and 16 gigabytes of RAM. Its storage is 256 or 512 gigabytes and up to one terabyte in size.
