Fritz!Box 5590 Fiber - Fiber Power with Wi-Fi 6 for All Connections
The Fritz!Box 5590 Fiber offers the complete Fritz!Box functionality directly at the fiber optic connection. Thanks to interchangeable modules, the Fritz!Box 5590 Fiber is highly flexible and can be used with all common fiber optic connections in Germany. Depending on the connection type, the appropriate Fritz!SFP plug-in module can be inserted into the integrated slot for fiber optic modules. This new fiber optic flagship distributes speed wirelessly in seconds via Wi-Fi 6 (4 x 4) and through a 2.5 Gigabit port, which can be used as both a WAN and LAN connection. Four Gigabit LAN ports and two USB 3.0 ports complete the high-speed features.
Works with Any Connection – Thanks to Interchangeable Fiber Transceivers
In Germany, there are various fiber optic access technologies. The Fritz!Box 5590 Fiber offers a modular system for network access via fiber optics, prepared for the most common connection types AON (e.g., many municipal network operators) and GPON (Deutsche Telekom, 1&1, Deutsche Glasfaser, Vodafone, among others). The appropriate Fritz!SFP modules for AON and GPON are included in the package. Color-coded cables and sockets simplify the setup.
Innovative Wi-Fi 6 for a Home Network with Many WLAN Devices
The Wi-Fi 6 standard addresses the continuously growing number of WLAN devices. From smartphones to tablets, PCs, 4K TVs, and speakers to smart home applications, more and more devices are being used simultaneously on the WLAN. By reducing latency times, Wi-Fi 6 ensures a fast and stable data flow. The Fritz!Box 5590 Fiber offers a bandwidth of 2,400 MBit/s in the 5 GHz band and 1,200 MBit/s in the 2.4 GHz band for many parallel applications. With high data throughput, Wi-Fi 6 also provides longer battery life for mobile devices in the home network.

Reviews & Ratings
- High WLAN performance
- Very fast USB ports
- many functions
- Range at 5 GHz somewhat low
- No Zig Bee radio for the smart home
With its strong Wi-Fi performance and great features, the FritzBox 5590 Fibre wins the test. If you want even faster Wi-Fi with Wifi 7, go for the 5690 Pro - and enjoy the additional ZigBee radio, which allows you to connect and control more smart home devices. In return, you have to accept compromises in terms of telephone and USB connections...
The top FritzBox 7590, 6690 and 5590 routers are suitable for large flats and houses thanks to their powerful WLAN. With their wide range of functions, they can cope with almost all requirements. The affordable 7530 AX, 6660 and 5530 offer sufficient performance for smaller households...
The FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber is - as the name suggests - specially designed for fibre optic connections. However, it can also be used as a router for other Internet connections. However, this requires coupling with the respective modem. The set-up is very easy thanks to the excellent AVM wizard and worked straight away in our test...

- Very high WLAN speed at short distance
- Very fast USB transmission
- 2.5 Gbit port
- extensive menu
- Low range at 5 GHz
The AVM Fritzbox 5590 Fiber is a clear recommendation if you are looking for a powerful WLAN router with a fibre optic modem. On the one hand, because there is hardly any competition with this equipment feature anyway. On the other hand, because it is better suited for a large home network than its smaller fibre-optic sister Fritzbox 5530 due to its high speed and extensive features...
... The higher performance is also reflected in the fast reactions of the user interface. However, our throughput measurements only showed smaller gains compared to the 5530. The reason: Wi-Fi 6 clients are still limited to 2x2 MIMO. The 5590 can only really turn up the heat when it supplies many end devices at the same time. The power consumption remains within limits.
- High WLAN performance
- many functions
- numerous connections
- USB fast
- Range at 5 GHz somewhat low
- No ISDN S0 connection
