The Canon EOS R6 is the new common sense. It does not push the resolution upwards in either image or video, but remains in the now lower range of 20 MP and 4K. Instead, it offers a fast and flexible AF system with modern detection methods, in-camera image stabilisation and state-of-the-art communication - all in a handy body with intuitive operation...
If you are looking for a particularly compact full-frame camera with the latest autofocus capabilities, the Alpha 7C II is a good choice. However, most of the larger cameras in the test field offer greater ease of use, e.g. an autofocus joystick or better viewfinders. The Canon EOS R8, which is the second cheapest camera tested with a street price of 1800 euros, won the test and offers the best value...
For a camera with a 24 MP sensor, the R6 shows quite decent readings in the lab, which remain stable across all ISO levels. The resolution curves (blue) are typical for Canon: first a slight increase and a short course along the line of one, then a quick drop. Noticeable: the curve for low contrasts (dashed) is above that for high contrasts (solid) for coarser structures...

The EOS R3 easily takes a "Super" and the commanding test victory. To be fair, it is also the most expensive camera in the test field. The closest camera in price terms is the Sony Alpha 9 II, which in some respects - unlike its high-resolution sister Alpha 1 - is no longer up to date...
The RAW format only opens up the additional quality reserves at higher sensitivities. Across all levels, however, the images have a more natural look with better detail. Although the resolution of the Canon R6 is already good in JPEGs, the exaggerated contrasts and edges are disturbing.

- The new Canon EOS R6 is a powerful full-frame camera in the 20-megapixel class. A strong image stabiliser, high continuous shooting speed and light sensitivity are among its plus points.
- The official list price beyond the 2,500 euro mark is a little too high for a camera in this resolution class. An integrated flash would be helpful, but as a "professional system" the EOS R6 unfortunately does without one.
With the new R5 and R6, Canon manages to retrofit the disadvantages criticised in the first R models, such as the lack of an image stabiliser. The EOS R6 is appealing for its extreme performance in terms of image dynamics and noise behaviour, which it owes to the decent pixel density on its 20-megapixel sensor. Its operation is well thought-out and intuitive.
