Product details
Powerful autofocus with 153 fields of view for outstanding subject capture performance in a wide range of shooting situations:
The D500's Multi-CAM 20K autofocus module has 153 close-focussed focus points
The D500's Multi-CAM 20K autofocus module has 153 close-focussed focus points
(99 of which are cross sensors) covering a very large part of the field of view. Even fast motifs can be captured with precision. The light sensitivity of the AF has been extended to -4 LW* for the medium field of view and to -3 LW* for all other fields of view, allowing the autofocus to be used in extremely low light or low-contrast subjects.
A new AF engine and an RGB sensor with approximately 180,000 pixels of subject recognition also contribute to the exceptional autofocus capabilities in a variety of subject situations.
High-speed continuous shooting with approx. 10 frames per second and up to 200 shots in a row (RAW, 14 bit, lossless compressed):
The D500 enables fast shooting with a frame rate of approximately 10 frames per second and a continuous shooting length of up to 200 shots (JPEG or RAW 14-bit, lossless compressed) without slowing down the recording speed.
Objects in motion can also be tracked precisely within the wide field of view at such high frame rates, with the advantages of the quiet viewfinder image and the currently largest viewfinder field of view** of approx. 30.8° (diagonal).
4K-UHD-Video, suitable for professional productions:
The D500 can record video in 4K UHD (3840 × 2160.30p/25p/24p) resolution as well as 1080/60p resolution, up to 29 min 59 s long. Simultaneous output via HDMI is possible. In addition, 4K-UHD time-lapse films can be generated with the camera. In Full HD or HD mode, the Digital Image Stabilizer reduces the effects of camera shake in horizontal, vertical, and direction of rotation when shooting freehand.
Active D-Lighting preserves the details in the lights and shadows for videos with natural reproduction of the respective lighting situation.
New image processing engine Expeed 5 for sensitivities up to ISO 51.200, expandable up to Hi 5 (corresponds to ISO 1.640.000):
The D500's new Expeed 5 image processing engine, which is also used in the D5, provides a standard ISO range from 100 to 51,200, which can be extended down to Lo 1 (according to ISO 50) and up to Hi 5 (according to ISO 1,640,000). Image processing guarantees exceptionally high resolution images and effectively reduces image noise even at high ISO settings. The 180,000-pixel RGB metering sensor, which is also new, increases the performance of the subject recognition system.
A flicker reduction for photos reduces exposure differences under lighting with flickering light sources.
SnapBridge support allows the camera to connect to mobile devices via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi:
If the SnapBridge application is installed, the D500 can establish a permanent connection to a mobile device via Bluetooth or Wlan (available as a free download). This results in a variety of functions: Images captured with the D500 can be automatically transferred to the mobile device and automatically uploaded to Nikon Image Space and saved. You can also view the photos stored in the camera on your mobile device and embed location, date and time information in images.
SnapBridge opens up new uses for images captured with the D500.

Very good84/100
- Vollformat-Sensor
Very good85/100
