Denon Heos 5 Hs2
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
My compliments to Denon
- With the HEOS system I get exactly what I have always been missing with comparable systems:
Very good hi-fi sound from the speakers (I have a HEOS 5 and a Heos 7) and the possibility of seamless integration into the existing living room equipment. I can now even control my amplifier (also Denon) via my HEOS Link or the APP - this is unique on the market and was decisive for my purchase decision.
If necessary, I will expand my HEOS system with the small Heos 1 - this can be made portable with a rechargeable battery and allows Bluetooth streaming. Ideal for holidays, the garden and rooms where music is not always needed, should soon be available in Switzerland.
What else is there to say about the HEOS system:
Installation was quick and easy
App easy to understand - even though I don't find the Spotify solution ideal - will soon switch to TIDAL Hifi (LOSSLESS - better sound).
Make sure that the router used is strong enough and ideally capable of 5Ghz.

It has been in use in our dining room for some time now. We are satisfied, the speaker provides background music and is ideal for this. Size of the room approx. 20sqm

Perfect for background music and placed in my kitchen with 16m2. Of course, a high-end stereo system can't top it. The user app is great. Only the first time you connect the phone via the headphone jack, you have to press the plug firmly onto the phone for it to work.
so that the set-up works.
Best value for money in that price range, sound is just breathtaking
Rich, clean sound with an astonishingly spatial impression - even at higher levels, a differentiated sound image is revealed. The workmanship is excellent. Services such as Spotify, TuneIn and the like are perfectly integrated - so the part also runs really well as a "standalone".
It is a pity that there is no really good integration of iTunes (which is more the fault of iTunes than of Denon) and music from Apple can therefore only reach the device via Bluetooth or cable connection. The sound is surprisingly different depending on the location: placed close to a wall, the sound image collapses somewhat and suddenly seems muffled. However, if you can place the speaker freely, you will enjoy the device.
And the Denon app could do with a refresh - it is very rudimentary and dusty (but works well...).

The speaker is good.
A small downer is the app:
- Time wasted during setup because the recommended methods simply don't work. I had to connect the device with network cable so that the setup was possible (afterwards also wifi without problems).
- The user remains trapped in the rather rudimentary and annoying Android app. Browser access is not supported (probably due to licensing issues). At least a documentation of the operation via Telnet(!) is provided (search for "HEOS_CLI_ProtocolSpecification.pdf"). So you can choose between the Android app and manual operation via Telnet terminal.
A client in Python is available on github under the name "heospy" (not yet tested).

Excellent connected speaker, powerful, good audio quality, very nice (subjective), not too bulky but the software part needs to be improved

In addition to this speaker, I also have the small threes, which run much more reliably.
Extremely annoying when they constantly lose the network connection.

I have one in the kitchen and one in the dining room. The control via app works quite well. Unfortunately, Spotify only works via Spotify Connect, which is only available with a premium account. As a workaround, however, you can simply connect via the jack. In this case, however, the playback device is of course location-bound.
The initial installation via 3.5mm jack cable did not work for me. However, it works without any problems via a network cable. The app can then be used to switch to WLAN.
The bass and treble can be adjusted via the app. Not exactly a huge selection, but sufficient.
I am totally satisfied with the sound
It is also nice that one speaker can be connected via a jack, but then the music can only be played on the second one, for example.

Had bought a hi-end device because of the music quality and only had problems with the installation and stability during playback. It was the same category but twice as expensive - it just wasn't stable. And now I am soooo happy with the device, the sound is not so perfect, but not distinguishable for the borrower, but as far as the user-friendliness is concerned, the expensive BO device can still learn a lot. In terms of equipment, I don't need much, so it's difficult to evaluate.
Design-wise, the combo with the smaller Heos 3 is quite something. I'm thinking of equipping my whole flat with it....

Nice speaker that sounds very good and has decent bass
Visually very pretty and very important: very good sound! But unfortunately no Apple Play, which is a shame as a Mac fan. I always have to start the box manually for the connection, which is very tedious in my opinion.
The set-up is also not up to date (only via jack connection cable) and I have not yet managed to play on the 5 HS2 and the HomeCinema speaker at the same time.
I personally don't find the app user-friendly. If simple operation and a modern app control/compatibility are important to you, you should perhaps take a look at Sonos. However, if the sound quality is even more important to you and you can overlook the deficiencies in user-friendliness, you will certainly be well served by it.
