The image stabilizer is absolutely top. Probably the best you can currently get from Fuji.
The sharpness is very good for a 5x zoom. Apparently there are many who expected a better image quality than with the 3x zoom 18-55. That's just a bit unrealistic. If you want the best sharpness, you have to buy fixed focal lengths!
Of course this is related to my specimen. I also read the bad reviews in the Fuji X forum. But there are just as many or more users who are very satisfied with this lens.
The workmanship is excellent. Absolutely nothing wobbles.
Note: I didn't buy the lens here and have used it for a month and a lot. On Flickr there are several pictures taken with this lens (also by me).

For me vorig sharp enough, aperture ring, super range 16-80mm, great auto and M focus, closest focusing distance amazingly short, weatherproof, 6 EV step image stabilizer, ingenious sunshade (quickly mounted), robust, lightweight, optimal ratio speed-weight-quality-..... This lens may be a bit pricey - but it is optimum at its very best. The compromises are "perfectly distributed". My joy is enormous! From my point of view, for my purposes: an unprecedented masterpiece. THANK YOU, Fujifilm! -

Unfortunately not sharp enough, I would not buy it again. If you compare this lens with the XF18-55, it falls through. The little more in the wide angle and telephoto you buy with less speed down around and much more weight and size. The XF18-55 is also more expensive. In direct comparison, the 18-55 is sharper.

I bought this lens in a set with the Fujifilm X-T4 because, starting with a focal length of 16 mm, it covers a bit more wide-angle than my 18 - 135. Unfortunately, especially in the wide-angle focal length range, it is only sharp in the middle and noticeably blurred at the sides. Only from about focal length 35 it gets better. Thus it is unusable for me and is a bad investment.

I have the lens since the beginning of October and it fits! Quality, price, weight, size and universal application are impressive.
I was never really satisfied with Fuji zoom lenses and preferred fixed focal lengths, even left Fuji for two years - but the 16-80 brought me back.
For an all-round lens, my favourite ...

Certainly not a "Flaschenboden" as michapebak said! In addition to being very versatile by its focal range (24-120mm equivalent 35mm) it allows proxy photography!
Native image 1/180 f8 iso 160 at 80mm, RAF developed with Lightroom; 2nd image crop 100%.
This lens is very far from being a "bottle ass"!!!

The long wait was worth it: lens is very good and price / performance are right.
Blurred from the center to the corners.
Classes worse than the XF 18-55 or the XF 18-135.
Save the money and either buy fixed focal lengths or an X-H1 with the 16-55.
