    loud on the desk

Works, but is extremely noisy. Software from LaCie which is offered for download for the Mac, has led to the system crash - OS 10.15.4. The RAID manager of the operating system fulfills its purpose without problems.

I'm afraid that was nothing, LACIE

To be honest, I am very disappointed.
I was always a big fan of LACIE and have many products from the cooker manufacturer (which now belongs to Seagate). I bought this one because I thought the integrated dock functionality
was actually great: ONE device on the desk that also combines a RAID system, card reader and USB (C) hub - a great idea.
It quickly became clear to me that the device has a crucial catch: the loud fan. The access noises are also really annoyingly loud, so I turned the device off as often as possible. Even in sleep mode, however, the disks keep starting up and you really have to switch the unit OFF by pressing it for a long time - THEN, of course, the card reader no longer works either...

After almost a year, I wanted to switch the disk on again. Unfortunately, the pretty blue LED only lit up RED and I could no longer access it. The service team contacted me and found a defect (oh wonder) - I should please pack everything up and send it to the USA for data recovery. This would take ONLY 30 working days. There was no other way to access my data (a RAID system). I then removed one of the two disks and was able to access the data without any problems, so it was only the housing that was broken. I contacted the manufacturer again and asked for a replacement unit. However, they could only send me a replacement once my current unit had arrived at the manufacturer - so I sent it - at MY COST - to a Seagate collection point in Munich. Just one week later, I received the shipping notice for my replacement unit. THIS is what I just unpacked. It is a refurbished unit with stains and scratches.

Honestly: A hard drive at THAT price from one of the most expensive manufacturers, with this annoying and loud functionality in combination with such poor service?

Sorry, LACIE, EVERY other manufacturer can do better.

New power unit not available for order

I need a new power supply unit while it is still under warranty. Digitec reports that it cannot be ordered. LaCie is unreachable on all channels or gives no answer, which comes to the same thing. Seagate hasn't heard from me yet either. So the hard drive has been unusable for weeks, including the data. What a wasteful piece of crap that doesn't even steam. Anyone who knows where to get this shit, please let me know. Thank you!

    I would recommend immediately

I ordered the device on Friday at 5pm and it arrived in the post on Saturday. It was recognised immediately on my Mac and was set up as Raid 1 in no time.

I find the integrated docking station very practical. Especially
for photographers. I can connect my Eizo monitor with Displayport without any problems. And there is an integrated card reader for CF cards. And I can attach the drone to the USB-C.

The Thunderbolt cable is rather short, but I didn't see that as a negative. If you have it right next to the computer, the length fits, but then I also needed a longer one.

Swiss power cables are now supplied by digitec. So the older comments on this are outdated.

    • Easy to set up and good simple software

    This LaCie is highly recommended

This LaCie was my "life insurance".
It survived a lightning strike, but unfortunately my Mac did not!
It is used in the home network.
I do data backup Raid 1 - runs stable for 2 years and this without interruption. You
    can rely on this LaCie!

don't buy. it is not only worthless, but kills the computer

After upgrading to Catalina, the harddrive crashes the iMac if plugged in every 10 minutes. After one day of doing that, the graphic card was broken. The product is not visible in the proprietary software Lacie RAID Manager, nor is there any help from Lacie. This has been a waste of money, data and time. I would recommend not to buy this under any circumstances

Good quality, fast but unfortunately software unusable

I bought the backup system because it is RAID-capable. Leather, the RAID Manager cannot be set up on Mac M1 although everything was installed exactly as specified. The disappointment with this system is correspondingly great. For this high price, it simply has to work. But it does not. There is nothing left to do but wait and see whether an update will be available soon.

    Pro

    • Good solid workmanship
    • Very good transmission speed

Very good for many and large files

I am thrilled with the Lacie 2big Dock Tunderbolt 3.
It has been in constant use as Raid 1 since I bought it.
Transferring files from the went very quickly, for the image database (approx. 420 GB) it only took half an hour.
    The
advantage of the numerous different connections is that I can keep my frequently used devices connected to the Mac's connections and don't have to keep plugging them in. I can also connect one monitor via HDMI and the second via DisplayPort. The front slots are ideal for transferring images.
One criticism is that the LaCie RAID Manager is currently (27 January 2021) not compatible with Macs with the Apple M1 chip, but I was able to solve this with the previous model...

    Pro

    • usb-c (3x)

I no longer buy a LaCie device. My device wouldn't start after two years. Unplug it, plug it in. No movement. Controller and 5TB data were gone. No more repair by the manufacturer, but exemplary goodwill from digitec. Many thanks!

    Very solid workhorse product

This product has had somewhat mixed reviews, with complaints ranging from substantial (lack of reliability) through intermediate (excessive HDD noise) to ridiculous (the power light shines too bright). I have encountered none of those with my unit.
The unit is very easy to set up and use — it has everything it needs, without any useless frills or gimmicks. Right from the box, I have loaded ~5 TB of data onto the disk in a non-stop run lasting about 3 days. The unit took it without any problem whatsoever. Since then, I have set up the unit so that it turns on each time I turn the connected computer on The unit is very solid so far, quietly sitting on my desk and doing what I need it to do.

    Pro

    • NAS-grade HDDs
    • Ease of setup and use
    • Good engineering
    • Reliability

    Contra

    • Power brick is unnecessarily large
    • Lack of Swiss power cord
    • Somewhat dated industrial design
