I think the P / L ratio is quite right with the device. In terms of price, it is still quite favorably positioned in the 10 GbE segment, but in terms of performance it brings exactly what you expect, namely problem-free and stable 10 GbE performance, especially for smaller networks.
My setup looks like this: I have two of these things. One is here in the office and connects my workstation (with a 10 GbE card from Intel) to the wall port. From there, the cabling goes to the basement, where another such switch is connected to the wall connection and from there it goes to my two servers (storage server and backup server), which both have the same Intel 10 GbE card installed as my workstation (Intel X540-T2).
In my workstation work as a data dump 2 pieces Samsung 860 Evo Pro 500 GB in RAID-0. In the storage server work 15 pieces WD Red 4 TB as RAID-50.
With this setup I get a constant transfer rate of 600-700 MB/s for large files (over 10 GB), which is about 2/3 of the theoretically possible performance of 10 GbE. The processors as well as the RAM are not the problem, but rather the hard disks.
As for the fan, which has been complained about here: it is audible, but not loud! It is also regulated. Yes, if it's warm in the room and the switch is running at full load for a longer period of time, it might become a bit more noticeable or annoying. The switch is never completely silent, but now also not unbearably loud.

Replaced my previous Zyxel XGS1250-12 8x1/3x10GBit switch.
Should have gotten the part right from the start ... but had concerns about the active ventilation and thus noise. And yes, the fan IS audible, and unfortunately also a quite high-frequency operating noise! Certainly nothing for a (very) quiet working environment. I also have an air filter running (= white noise), so I don't really notice it, but otherwise you should consider a remote or substructure placement.
Otherwise, highly satisfied with the switch, just lukewarm in continuous operation, in contrast to the Zyxel which was quite warm. And full 8x 10GBit ports instead of only 3, since you finally have enough ports for the small 10GBit home network. ^^
Have now even with my QNAP USB 3.2 Gen 1 to 5GbE adapter & CAT8 LAN cable consistently ~3 GBit download instead of previously only ~2.1GBit. However, with the 10GBit NIC's, nothing has changed with the 9.5GBit up/down that already existed before. (Fiber7-X)

I expected something very noisy because 10Gbit ethernet is hot and need good cooling but it isn't,
I barely hear it and it's right under my desk (tray under table).
My computer(s) make more noise than this switch.
When you first power it on you will definitely hear the fan but unless you have all ports in use and a heavy network traffic it should stop or quiet down.
I cannot hear mine at all with 3x10gbit + 2x1gbit connected.
After a few attempts at placement, it ended up under a desk with some breathing space above, witout a direct line to your ears you won't hear it. Don't place it on a desk or closet next to your head, it's not noiseless, it makes low, easily blocked noise.
I was curious and measured the surface temp at around 40°C for your information, it's hot but ok. (in my low usage case)

The switch is really nice and has great switching bandwidth, the downside is the fan always runs on the same speed. Regardless of ambient temperature. And even at normal room temperature its loud.
This makes it good for in a server rack, but terrible for on desk, or in office settings.

The Netgear Switch XS505M is a simple 5 (4 RJ45) port switch, which is quickly installed and available for a good price. For example perfect for a small video studio or similar.
