This SSD was used to replace the hard drive of a Lenovo W520. I knew a clean windows install was the easiest option but this was a work laptop, so i had many programs that i didn't want to reinstall. I made a sensitive data backup to a company cloud and a personal drive. The software, if lost, could anyways be reinstalled from our cloud, but i wanted to save time. So here it goes: direct (or online: all drives connected with running windows 7) cloning did not work no matter what i tried. To make it short, this worked: basically an offline (unmounted) clone using Macrium Reflect (free version). First i made a drive image while logged to windows 7, and saved this image to a personal usb hdd. Then i swapped the drive from the W520 for this new SSD, and booted to a Macrium boot cd. On this CD operating system with Macrium Reflect, I format the new SSD and start the cloning by reading the HDD image from the usb drive. Worked perfect, minor software things to fix after the laptop detected a new drive. Re-run the computer performance rating, and the hard disk score went up from 5.2 to 7.9. Blazing fast, programs are ready to go faster than the time i need to click them all open.
Notes: I did *not* activate RAPID mode, it depends on RAM to store data, therefore a power loss would mean absolute loss of recently created data. I need reliability for work, i'm already riding the cheetah, no need to ride the thunder. (some tests show RAPID increase overall velocity by 2x). Also i keep my original drive exactly as before, just in case anything fails, but i don't think it will, the 3D-VNAND seems to be a very reliable technology. I keep new important files synced to the company cloud.

    Pro

    • Performance speed
    • Low noise
    • no movng parts, overall more reliable
    • Yes SSD has limited life, but technology now has made this life way too long, standard users are ok.

    Contra

    • 3D-VNAND is a fully new technology, time will tell the truth about it.

Very fast SSD, was recognised without any problems by the ASUS Z97PRO mainboard (WiFi ac). Installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit was done after a few minutes. Let's see how it goes with the 10-year warranty ...

This SSD makes old laptops fit again and you save the money for a new laptop.

I am super satisfied with this SSD. Finally, working on the laptop is fun again. Before, my 6 year old laptop (Sony VGN-NW21ZF) needed 10 minutes until I could work with it and now it only takes 33 seconds to boot up the laptop, enter the password, start Outlook, select a new email! :-)
