Unfortunately, if you want a good mobile phone with good technology, there is not much choice in the compact format. With the XZ2 Compact, Sony offers what I think is a well-designed smartphone that is unrivalled in the Android segment. What I like is that the corners are finally nicely rounded and the device fits perfectly in the hand. It is fun to use the device because it never seems to be overpowered in any application (thanks to Snapdragon 845). The 5" Full HD display is also a joy to use. The Sony XZ2 Compact is a little thick at 12.1 mm, but the battery lasts for 2 days with average use. I think it's a shame that Sony has also dispensed with the 3.5mm jack connection. (An adapter is included for this)
A small tip: The Sony XZ2 Compact is already very fast and smooth to use, but if you like it even faster and smoother, I recommend installing the "Pixel 2 Launcher" from Google as an APK.

Nobly crafted mobile that bucks the trend of "bigger and bigger" and still comes with super performance and features.

I've had the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact for a few days and can highly recommend it. The design may not be to everyone's liking, but it is very pleasant to use due to its size and the curvature on the back. The relatively high weight and the high-quality workmanship leave a consistently good quality impression. The system performance is a blast thanks to the latest Snapdragon 845 processor! In addition, the camera is finally convincing - it has been significantly improved compared to its predecessors. If you're looking for a compact, high-quality and handy smartphone, you've come to the right place!

I had the Xperia Z5 Compact as a predecessor and have to say that things have changed. Transfer from the Z5 Compact to the XZ2 Compact was fast and perfect as usual. After the first few days of use, I have to say the change was worth it. Very fast, clear colours and good sound. Only the screen doesn't react as well as the Z5 Compact when swiping between photos.
It's a shame that the finger sensor is on the back. It's hardly usable with a leather case. You can hardly reach the sensor.
For me, it's really a super compact phone.

The latest compact model from Sony is a marvel of ergonomics; neither too big nor too small, it is comfortable to carry despite weighing more than the average for its range. A very resistant shell that prevents mishaps in case of a fall. My laptop has fallen out of my bag a couple of times and has only a few marks on its edges. It's a far cry from the fell screens that are common on Samsung or Iphone...
As far as performance is concerned, it is undeniably present. A very different camera; I no longer have the overheating problems that prevented me from taking long videos on the old Xperia Compact.
Video quality is excellent, at least outdoors. There are 19 MPX, and for a compact model, that's definitely good, even though it obviously doesn't have the advances found on most high-end smartphones today; 4K and OLED.
If you want to shoot in a bright, overcast area, however, you'll quickly find discrepancies in the image's relationship to reality. The same applies to photos. I can see this when I edit my videos or photos on my PC, because I am lucky enough to have found software that allows me to harmonise the contrasts and levels on all the photos and videos that I transfer from my laptop. The other slight "handicap" (closely related to the previous one) is that, unlike my previous models (Xperia Z1, Z3C and Z5), the brightness settings are not adjustable. The other slight "handicap" (closely related to the previous one) is that, unlike my previous models (Xperia Z1, Z3C and Z5), the brightness settings are not saved and therefore have to be changed again each time the camera is turned off or in standby mode...
Finally, the autonomy is not better on this model. Nevertheless, it is good enough for me as it allows me to enjoy all the advantages of my phone for a day, knowing that it remains above the average of contemporary high-end mobiles.

Replacement of my Z5
In comparison:
- Very fast
- Connection via BT is MUCH faster
- WiFi connects much faster when it detects a network
- GPS first fix is very fast
- Position of the fingerprint sensor takes some getting used to (found it better integrated in the power head)
- Unfortunately (again) bigger compared to the Z5
- Rounded design a bit 'slippery'.

I have been using the XZ2 Compact for a week now. It replaces my Z3 Compact. At first I was a bit sceptical because of the thickness of the phone. Now that I have it, it doesn't bother me in any way. On the contrary, the pillow-like back makes the device feel very good in the hand. The feel is excellent for me. The fingerprint sensor also works very well for me and is in the right place for my index finger. I can't understand the much-read criticism about its placement. What bothers me, however, is the lack of a 3.5 mm jack for the headphones. Since I have headphones in various places, this is very annoying. I have now ordered several adapters with which I can connect my headphones. The sound when playing music has convinced me so far with all the headphones I have used. The adapters are also so good that GND/AUX is supported in both arrangements. That was not the case with the Z3 Compact with its built-in jack!
I haven't really been able to test the battery life yet, but I can easily get through a day with it. I can't say much about the camera - for me, as a fan of the full-frame format, a camera on a phone plays a subordinate role.

I am very satisfied with the phone so far. The size is great for my rather small hand. I can easily operate the screen with one hand. The thickness and weight take a bit of getting used to, but thanks to the rounding and the material at the back, the device fits perfectly in my hand. I have the feeling that the device cannot slip out of my hand, which is the case with flat, thin phones.
The display is sharp and has beautiful colours. The battery lasts well - 2-3 days with normal use, then 1 day if I have tethering activated for +- half a day and Bluetooth for a few hours.
The image quality of the camera is great for snapshots. In dark conditions, the quality is not optimal, but many smartphones have trouble with that. The predictive capture function is useful, but the photos are stored in a different place than the normal photos. This distribution of the photos is somewhat annoying.
The only big disadvantage is the lack of an AUX connection. It is interesting that the included headphones nevertheless have an AUX plug. An adapter for AUX to USB-C is included, but you have to remember to take it with you.
Otherwise, I can only recommend the phone.

Overall a very good phone, but the photo part (sensor and software) is not up to the level of a Galaxy S7 or newer. The macro mode is difficult to use and the brightness is not as good

A super combination of compact high-end hardware and sophisticated software! I have not found a similarly satisfactory alternative to this smartphone on the Swiss market, so I was glad that another Compact model appeared at all. Compared to my previous Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, I guess:
- The internal memory, which has now grown to 64GB
- The switch to USB-C (I never dreamed I'd be so happy to plug in the charging cable in two possible ways).
- The "soap" shape and the following:
Even though someone recently asked me again what a thick smartphone this is, I am extremely happy with the weight, the thickness and the "soap" shape for the simple reason that it feels great in the hands. Admittedly, the back may be a bit slippery, and the manufacturer could probably improve that. But in terms of thickness, this smartphone is simply very comfortable to hold compared to many other very thin models. And honestly, thinner phones like my previous Samsung Galaxy S4, when I held it in my hands, there was just hollow space in the palm of my hand - quite OK, but why not use the space if it's already there, I at least never put a smartphone on the flat of my hand, which would make a flat back more practical.
The missing 3.5mm jack - yes, I've almost never missed it before. Almost. Until recently, when I was on the road and packed wired headphones instead due to the longer travel time and the comparatively low battery capacity of True Wireless headphones. When I wanted to use them, I realised that a 3.5 mm jack does have something. Well, that was one time and since the other headphones already have Bluetooth and I am satisfied with them, no noticeable loss for me.
The fingerprint sensor only on the back: Yep, I've got used to it. I liked it better on the side, like on the Z5 Compact, but then maybe the XZ2 Compact should have been shaped differently there.
More display and fewer edges, that would be something for the next generation, like the current models from Huawei, Samsung and Apple.
I hope that Sony will continue to release compact smartphones with high-end hardware. I wouldn't be wrong with a second manufacturer, should Sony decide to stop producing such models.

Very good, much better than my IPhone xs that I had before. The camera alone is worlds better, as is the battery life and the screen. I'm glad I broke away from Apple! The only disadvantage is that the phone no longer has a headphone jack (but the Apple part didn't have one either).

One of the few smartphones that still fits in a normal trouser pocket. The device still runs flawlessly and has great speed. The dual-SIM function is also strong, the battery lasts even despite intensive music enjoyment. The performance of the smartphone is absolutely sufficient and leaves nothing to be desired. For the price and size, the phone is really unrivalled in this segment. Compared to other smartphones, it is rather heavier, but this is not really annoying in daily use. I can only recommend this device.

The choice of small and powerful Android smartphones is small. Unfortunately, there is no way around Sony, so you also have to accept questionable design decisions, such as the omission of the headphone jack.

I have had this phone for a month, two aspects are not good but the rest is very good:
The convex design on the back is surprising at first but you get used to it pretty quickly and in the end it's really not bad.
The performances are very correct for the size of the device. It remains to observe the evolution of these with time and the updates! The speaker is however very bad: The speaker crackles at high volume with wear (1 month!), very unpleasant. The combined speaker is worse, I'll explain at the end.
Equipment wise, the usb-C is nice for its solidity compared to the usual micro-usb but I miss the 3.5mm jack. Sony offers a "charge and jack" Y-adapter, but the charging power is reduced and this makes this adapter borderline useless, not practical so bof...
The finish is good, the detail is good and it looks better in the hand than on the pictures.
The image is good, the photo does its job for quick and mobile shots of everyone. Nothing to complain about on this side.
I have encountered a major problem: this phone does not allow normal phone calls!
I've been using it for a month now and the quality of the loudspeaker has deteriorated as mentioned above. I can't hear anything when I'm on a call, via standard network or voIP (Whats'app, skype etc) the sound is as if it's restricted to the minimum, despite attempts to turn up the volume normally and in the common settings.
The forums indicate a recurring problem and the solution would be in the software for the volume. Not wanting to blow the warranty by rooting the phone to fix the problem myself I am waiting for a quick fix from Sony.
Good day to you and good research!

All good
Surprisingly heavy for a smartphone of this size. Very nice finish, a bit thick but it doesn't hinder the grip. Technically it meets all my expectations. Photo quality not so good in auto mode, but it seems much better in manual mode. Good battery life, and intelligent charge prediction (very good)
