I have been an iPhone user for 7 years. Since the Iphone 4 shot up my Wi-Fi after the update to iOS 7 and (the warranty of one year had just expired) no one could/would help me, although there were apparently many such cases, I have now switched to the Z3. I am positively surprised at how easy everything is, it convinces me. I have now managed to sync everything with Apps, including the "notes" that are important for me.
The iPhone is probably easier because it doesn't have as many customisation options, but I like it.

I am a proud Z1c user and have always been very satisfied with the smartphone. However, Sony has now outdone itself once again. My only criticism of the Z1c was that the display was too small in relation to the body. In my opinion, Sony has implemented this perfectly in the Z3c - now there's really nothing to complain about! Price/performance is simply top. If you consider that an iPhone 6 is worse in practically all areas and still costs twice as much!
I won't regret buying the Sony Z3 compact at all.

I switched to this device after 4 years of using the iPhone4. I do not regret the switch in any way. The Android operating system is much more open and flexible than iOS. However, it is also confusing for inexperienced users due to its countless possibilities.
I compared it directly with a colleague's iPhone 6: we consider both camera quality and graphics performance to be higher on the Z3. The iPhone 6 shows higher image noise with dark motifs. Likewise, you can zoom in closer with the Z3 without the quality suffering.
With Apple, you pay a lot for the name.
UPDATE 13.8.2015:
Unfortunately, I have to correct my rating downwards: I have already broken the back glass 3 times. Unfortunately, this is very delicate. I was always able to repair it myself. During the repair, I also had the opportunity to take a look inside. It is visibly cheaper (plastic) than the iPhone (metal). You have to save money somewhere.

Fantastic mobile phone!
I replaced my HTC ONE X+ with it, I'm thrilled in every way.
What I find amazing is the battery, I can't get it dead within 1 day, lol.
For example, a day from 7 in the morning to 11 in the evening;
-Talking on the phone for hours
-About every 1/2h News Apps,Weather,FB etc
-listening to music,streaming
-Internet surfing
-calendar,email etc very often
-play a bit now and then (nothing elaborate, e.g. Tetris, Solitaire)
-watch videos about 2 hours a day (Youtube etc).
-and and and.
I even caught myself running the screen extra sometimes so that the battery finally empties :P
Haven't managed to get the battery below 35% in a day like this yet.

Hello
I bought the phone on 29.09.2014 and I must say I am very enthusiastic. I switched from an iPhone to a Sony and I don't regret it. I find that the display can simply show the colours much better and especially red, yellow and green much more beautiful and saturated. I found the switch to Sony very easy. The data like (music, contacts, pictures etc...)
were transferred easily and quickly. Now we come to the camera I compared them with each other and I noticed that the colours are displayed very nicely and can be displayed cool with some effects. The 4K recording also works perfectly. However, the app automatically shuts down when the device gets too hot. However, this has not happened to me yet.
The speakers reproduce a good sound with little bass, which doesn't bother me personally. Optimal size for movies and navigation. (4.6 inch)
I can only recommend this phone.
Top price/performance ratio

I switched from the Xperia Z1 Compact to the Z3 Compact and although I thought it was a rather pointless switch at first, I am very satisfied. The Z1c was already very good, with this one Sony has managed to improve it even more. Super performance, very close to the (already very good) standard Android with slight but useful additions from Sony. Super battery life, nice screen with good colours, contrast and brightness, elegant design, handy, screen uses size well. Equally good but almost half the price of an iPhone 6.

Actually, I had ordered an iPhone 6 with 64 GB in Spacegrey because my old iPhone 3GS was finally to be replaced. Since Apple is not able to deliver this version, I cancelled the order and ordered the Xperia Z3 Compact. It's pretty comparable to the iPhone 6. What can I say? I didn't regret it. On the contrary. I don't miss anything and have saved a lot of money compared to the iPhone 6. That's why I also just bought the Smartwatch 2, which also works very well.

I still had a Samsung Galaxy S3, it was a good smartphone but I think the whole Galaxy series has stood still, sure everything is much faster etc... but for example the design doesn't blow me away at all and if you want a smaller model the hardware is slimmed down!
The hardware of the Sony Z3 compact is just as good or even better than the iPhone 6, for example, and much cheaper! But you shouldn't compare Android and IOS, sorry!
I am really enthusiastic about this device!

I switched from the iPhone 5 and am very satisfied so far.
All data from the iPhone (contacts, text messages, photos, etc.) can be easily transferred to the Sony using the cable included.
I am particularly impressed by the battery (moderate use, one charge lasts about 3 days!). The device has a pleasant size, not much bigger than the iPhone 5, and yet has a much larger display. All in all, so far a clear buy recommendation (and a cheap alternative to the new iPhones ;-)).

I didn't buy the device from Digitec, but I'll leave my review here.
I might have liked the Z3 a bit better because it is a bit slimmer and has a beautiful aluminium frame, but it was too big for me. I used to own an Xperia Z2 and was already excited about it because it was quite robust.
The Z3 compact convinced me even more as it is very VERY!!! fast! Super fast! It's also really handy. I got the Tough Case from the company Case Mate and despite this case it is still very tough.
Compared to other phones of this size, the Sony Z3 compact has a relatively large screen.
I also find it great that a pencil can be used as a touch pen (AS LONG AS NO FOLE IS MOUNTED ON THE Z3 COMPACT!).
Many find the "easily scratched back" a negative point. Since almost no smartphone user goes through life without a case anyway, this was and is not a negative criterion for me.
Speakers: sound okay but not outstanding (when compared with the HTC One m8, for example), but this is not a criterion for me because I have my stereo system at home and listen to music with headphones when I'm out and about.
Storage expandable to 128 GB = very good. It's just a shame that Android devices don't allow you to save all apps to the memory card.
What could be improved, in my opinion, is the camera.
1) Let's face it, no one needs 20 MP for photos that will only be viewed on the phone, if at all.
2. when it gets dark, the pictures get noisy.
What amazed me about the camera was the video recording at a concert. The sound, despite thousands of people singing along, doesn't roll over during playback. The autofocus reacts a little slowly

I've had the device for about 3 months. My best smartphone ever (after HTC, iPhone, Samsung).
RECHARGEABLE BATTERY +++
and everything else is great!
To all those who have problems with the charging flap and do not have an expensive charging station:
Amazon offers charging cables for about 8 euros that dock onto the magnet on the side (connection of the docking station)!

The very high-quality workmanship and waterproofness simply prove themselves in everyday use.
The Sony Android interface is also very pleasant to use.
The display is probably the best you can currently buy.
Only the camera can't completely convince me. It is ok, but takes surprisingly bad pictures in unfavourable light conditions. Sony should be able to do better.

After only three weeks, my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact had to be sent in by Digitec due to a stress crack on the inside of the display (no external influence). After more than 5 months of waiting, countless telephone enquiries and e-mails, I received the message that: "Due to the high-quality workmanship of the display, the damage must have been caused by an external mechanical influence due to improper handling."
You are welcome to look up what other people have to say about this on the internet...

Perfect for those who want a high performance phone with a small size. Does not have a full-HD (1080p) screen, but HD ready only (720p). However, for the size of the screen this is not a problem. The quality is amazing!
The camera is impressive for a phone, adapts to high contrast levels.
The only negative is the sony home launcher which basically only orientates in landscape mode with the dockingstation. You have to download a third party application or use another home launcher to have it in landscape mode.

I was already due for an upgrade from my iphone 4s (and i was looking to switch to android for some personal/practical reasons). Checked the offerings for a while and I believe at this moment this is the best phone for the price.
I don't like the trend of phones getting enormous screens. I want the phone to fit comfortably in my pocket. Size of this phone is about as big as I accept.
Z3 compact is awesome because it's exactly what you would think, just a smaller version of Z3, but has same CPU and GPU (Samsungs S5 mini as not like that, you can google benchmark tests).
Build is very solid, feels very nice in the hand. Finishing is superb and I can't find any flaw in the design/production of the phone.
I was pleasantly surprised with the transfer software that allows you to directly connect with other phone (even iphone), transfers contacts, photos messages and even analyzes your iOS apps and prepares for you a list of equivalent android apps. All you have to do is click and confirm apps which of them you want to install.
The rest is pretty much as expected, screen is sharp, colors are crisp and clear, sound is good (voice comes out perfectly clear)...SD card support is great. It supports up to 128GB (I paired with 64GB for now).
Pre-installed version of android also doesn't seem to be overpacked with bloatware (like with some other models). Everything is very responsive, fast...just a pleasure to interact with.
Sony already announced that it will update to next version of android (5.0 Lollipop) so that's a nice bonus too.
If you are android user you already know what to expect. If you are (like me) a long time apple user, well, all i can say is that transition was painless and I haven't regretted it even once.
Only advice for buyers is to get immediately either a docking station or the magnetic charging cable. It is just simply much easier, and you avoid the risk of damaging the (waterproof) cover over the usb/sd card slot.

The launcher of the Andriod version is a disgrace. Immediately replaced with "Nova Launcher" so that you can remove the Google search.
Many useless, data-stealing apps pre-installed: Playstation Network, Twitter, Lifelog, Facebook, Hangout, .... (List is long!)
Paradise for narcissists!
Furthermore, many Sony services run in the background.
Replaced the operating system with Cyanogenmod, now it runs more smoothly and the battery lasts noticeably longer.
Furthermore, the phone no longer becomes a hotplate when using the camera. :)

I switched from an iPhone 4S to the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. And so far very satisfied. The price/performance ratio is sensational. The phone is fast and always responds smoothly. The battery lasts at least a whole day, even with intensive use. The only thing I'm not quite as enthusiastic about is the camera as some test reports. The iPhones are much better, especially in poor lighting conditions. And the 20 megapixels are only there on paper. Even in bright sunshine, the details blur in the photos. Even at 20 MP in manual mode.
The phone is excellently made and the fact that it is waterproof is a great plus.
Negative: To charge it, the cover has to be opened, which probably compromises the waterproofing in the long run. The remedy is the optional docking station, which is, however, a nuisance. It is too light and positioning the smartphone correctly is a matter of luck.

I too have switched from an iPhone 4 to Sony. What I like is the customisation options. Furthermore, I find the sound and picture quality outstanding. The size is comfortable (slightly larger than the iPhone) and the phone feels good in the hand.

My wife has it (I've had the Xperia Z1 c since January):
+ Sharp screen; bigger than the previous model's (4.3 inches -> 4.6 inches) - although the new model is 1 mm narrower and 1 mm thinner.
+ Very nice design, "fancy part".
+ Waterproof: Good feature for people who are often outdoors and sometimes use it with wet hands.
+ Size is just about suitable for a trouser pocket.
I don't see any weaknesses in the device itself, but in the "Sony PC Companion" software:
- It takes at least 20 minutes for the software to recognise the device and then you have to sit at the computer again to initiate the next step: The backup itself takes a very, very long time and the backup of the SD card has to be done manually.
- Transferring data from the old device (even if it is also a Sony) does not work reliably.
Android: I think this operating system is OK, even if it is of course very "Google-heavy". Unfortunately, with the newer versions you can't even move photos to other folders (you have to do that manually on the computer).

Charging via mini-usb a bit awkward, first the cover has to be removed, then the cable can be plugged in. Therefore, the docking station must also be used for charging. Probably less suitable for holidays.

Great phone, reasonable size. The battery life is exceptional for a smartphone, the stamina mode is really a good balance between battery life and fast notifications.
Sony's overlay is good, but still too many pre-installed apps that you can't uninstall.
The included dock connector would be perfect.
