If I move the old HHDs from my previous Synology NAS to the new one, will it migrate cleanly and my data be safe?

Yes - I was able to move the HDs from DS412+ with DM 6.2.4 into the DS1621+ quasi (move the HDs into the new holder), boot the DS1621+ and then everything was migrated perfectly. After max. 10-15 minutes, I had the system completely running again under DS1621+.

Rather no, most likely not! Either migrate via 1:1 migration (new NAS with corresponding disks installed, then sync (Synology to Synology) - consult Synology manuals online) or at least via backup of everything on external disk, rebuild in the new NAS, restore backup (snyc data to external disk instead of in backup program, so that it is absolutely certain that they can be restored...). Taking over disks 1:1... not my thing.
