Best in class
Having tried a couple other portable scanners, I think this is the best device on the market today in its class!

- duplex
- usb powered
- first class linux support (unlike most other manufacturers who just don't care about these users!)
- good scan quality and as fast as other scanners in this class are (~ 8ppm)
Contra
- 600dpi color duplex doesn't seem to work for me, but didn't try much and might have to do with linux

A disappointment (DS-940DW)
I bought the scanner to scan my private invoices and all the non-electronic letters that still arrive old-school. I'm currently still doing this with my smartphone and the Dropbox app, so the quality is so-so... This scanner was supposed to provide a remedy.
But I was very disappointed and unfortunately have to return the product.Pro
- design, it really is a nice little scanner
- Can scan front and back at the same time (duplex)
- Has a battery and WLAN (even if it's only of limited use)
Contra
- To use the scan button on hardware, the scanner must be connected to the PC via USB
- Feeder feeds all pages at the same time, which leads to paper jams
- You have to "feed" one side after the other
- Desktop app is in the style of 2004, nothing is maintained
- Smartphone app offers few setting options
- Documents must be forwarded manually in the smartphone app (direct to cloud is not possible)
- Each page has a slightly different format, you can't set a fixed A4 size
- Black edges are visible in the scan
- All sides are drawn in at a slightly different angle
- Receiving device MUST be connected; direct scan e.g. to NAS/cloud is not possible
- All the buttons (duplex yes/no, PDF/JPEG, colour/SW) probably only work in conjunction with an SD card

Good for documents, especially not photos
I picked it up to scan documents quickly and easily, and since I'm already familiar with Brother scanners, I'm happy with it in that respect: it scans documents quickly and puts them in the right direction. Duplexing is a real time-saver too, as is saving directly to PDF and the ability to build one by adding pages while scanning.
Unfortunately, the only negative point about document scanning is that automatic size detection and most of the automatic detection options (orientation, etc...) only work when scanning at a resolution of 300dpi. If you increase the resolution, you'll have to do everything by hand with another piece of software... This is still sufficient for most documents, but it's a shame for a device that boasts 600dpi optical scan resolution...
Finally, if you want to scan photos, don't bother! It's not a device made for that: you'll get artefacts, patterns and streaks appearing on your photos, which will also not keep their proportions (they'll be slightly thinner/shorter in the direction of the scan). So for photos, it's not worth using a traditional flatbed scanner or one of better quality.Pro

Expensive but good
Allows you to scan directly to the SDcardMini with the selection buttons on top (Duplex, B/W Color, JPG or PDF output)
Allows with Wifi to scan on the smartphone in pdf, then to be able to print it using the Brother iPrint & Scan app
Allows scanning on PC with their app which is very powerful, an added value
This second scanner is a great improvement of my previous one (black) of the competition acquired 5 years ago ... but it is still their flagship model ....Pro
