A magician friend asks Petronella to take in one of his pupils for a few days. Petronella agrees, even though the glow-nose disease is rampant in Haspelwald and she has her hands full. As feared, the sorcerer's apprentice, who calls himself "the great mumbo-jumbo", immediately causes a great deal of confusion. Lea's request to help an injured eagle owl waiting in an animal rescue centre comes at a rather inopportune time. Petronella puts the children off until later. But Lea doesn't want to wait for that. And when Mumpitz offers his help, the children set off on their own with the sorcerer's apprentice.
