Traffic light system (red=sleep; orange=get up soon; green=get up) works pretty well with our daughter. At the beginning it was irritating that the green phase only lasts about 30 minutes and then switches off (the red phase can be set to permanent lighting for the purpose of night light). But in practical use, this does not matter.

Quick, uncomplicated and complete
It works really well for our 2 and a half year old who used to call us a bit early in the morning. We've been using the sheep for 1 month now and our child took to it straight away (thinks it's cute, looks to see if it's asleep, asks for a blanket to be put over it, etc.).
The programming isn't that complicated (QR code with instructions) but we have the same timetable all week long. You can then lock the screen (to prevent tampering). There's a night function, but also a nap function (which we don't use). I like the fact that this device is not connected.
The sheep is red when the child needs to sleep (you can leave the light on all the time or switch it off after 5, 15 or 30 minutes): the red light illuminates the room a little, but doesn't stop the child sleeping. 30 minutes before wake-up time (it's not adjustable but I think it's better because for a small child, waiting 30 minutes is already good), the light turns orange and the child learns that he has to wait until the sheep is green and opens his eyes (it's true that opening his eyes makes a noise but it doesn't wake up our child). The alarm sound can be set or turned off (Sam makes a bleating sound). He stays green for 30 minutes (it could be longer... but our child has learnt that when he's grey, he can get up).
The device puts a lot of strain on the batteries, so you'll need to plan to plug it into the mains (the battery function for holidays/escapades is a good idea). Everything switches off if the plug is pulled and you have to reprogram it.
We advise parents not to put the sheep within reach of a small child, because according to the comments we've read, it's fragile and can go wrong despite the lock. We put it on top of the wardrobe and will put it on the bedside table when our child is old enough to be more careful and look at the time (two displays: digital and analogue).

Alarm clock can be operated with the power plug, but the cable is quite short. Battery consumption quite high. 4xAA batteries approx. 4-5 weeks, therefore -1 star.
