This ultra-high frequency is perceived by martens as disturbing and unpleasant, allowing them to avoid the corresponding vehicle. Humans cannot hear the sound and therefore are not disturbed by it. Martens are nocturnal animals and flexible in their feeding habits. A marten leaves scent traces, which other martens react to aggressively, leading to more gnawing on cables and lines. The problems of chewed cables often occur during relocations to another marten territory or at territory boundaries.

The mating season begins at the end of June. Therefore, territorial battles peak in May; male martens are then at their most aggressive.
