Product details

The Volkswagen, developed in the 1930s by the Stuttgart engineering office Porsche on government orders, evolved over its 65 years of production into the most manufactured car in the world, surpassing the previous record holder, the Ford Model T, known as the "Tin Lizzy." The "Beetle," whose most outstanding technical features included its revolutionary streamlined shape for that time, the air-cooled 4-cylinder boxer engine, its innovative platform chassis, and the newly developed torsion bar suspension, underwent a continuous process of development and improvement over the years. It is documented that between 1948 and 1974, no fewer than 78,000 technical changes were made to the VW Beetle. In 1954, during a VW Beetle meeting, former General Director of Volkswagen, Heinrich Nordhoff, stated: "We believe that salvation does not lie in bold and grand new designs, but in the consistent and never-satisfied further development of even the smallest detail to maturity and perfection, which brings true surprising success.".
