Ubisoft presents new games at the Summer Game Fest. In addition to three "Assassin's Creed" games, the French publisher will be showing gameplay impressions of "Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora" and "Star Wars Outlaws" for the first time.

As part of the Summer Game Fest, Ubisoft is presenting new games - and a new Netflix series. There are no big surprises, but there are detailed gameplay impressions of games that have already been announced.

Highlights include the new "Assassin's Creed" games and the open-world games for "Avatar" and "Star Wars".

You can find the entire showcase in the embedded video.

An overview of all announcements and trailers

No time for the two-hour Ubisoft show? Below you will find a summary of all games and announcements

"Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora": Beautiful open-world, old-fashioned Ubisoft formula

In the new "Avatar" open-world game, you take on the role of a Navi warrior who fights against the exploitative military company RDA. The game is set in the "Western Frontier" - a continent on Pandora that was never seen in the films. As you explore the game world, you can count on the help of animal companions that you can ride on the ground and in the air.

The game is played from a first-person perspective. Because you were originally trained by the RDA, you not only have traditional Navi weapons at your disposal in combat, but also human weapons such as shotguns and rifles. If you don't want to take on the action-packed adventure alone, you can play through the entire game in co-op mode with two players.

Optically, the title looks pretty impressive. The gameplay looks like Ubisoft's typical open-world formula. Over the course of the game, you have to clear many RDA outposts to unlock parts of the map. On Twitter, the game is already being dubbed "Far Cry: Avatar"

"Xdefiant": The free-to-play shooter is coming soon

In Ubisoft's team-based arena shooter, you play with well-known characters from various Ubisoft franchises. The game has already been dubbed the "Call of Duty" killer by many beta testers

After several beta test runs, there will be an "Open Session" in June for which you can now register at PlayXDefiant.com. According to Ubisoft, the game will be released "in the summer".

Released for: Playstation, Xbox, PC
Release: Sometime in the summer

"Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown": Crisp platformer action in 2.5D format

The new "Prince of Persia" game with a 2.5D look was already presented at the Summer Game Fest Showcase. Now Ubisoft is showing new gameplay footage and interviews with the development team.

The game builds on the 2D origins of the game series and offers smoothly animated platform action in a modern guise. In addition to tricky jumps, the Persian prince's superpowers must also be used to defeat numerous enemies and solve tricky puzzles.

The game is being developed by the Ubisoft team responsible for the excellent 2D platformer "Rayman Legends". That makes me more than confident.

Released for: Playstation, Xbox, Switch, PC
Release: 18 January 2024

"Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix": An anime for fans of the nineties

In addition to new games, Ubisoft is also announcing a new anime series on Netflix. "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix" is based on the "Far Cry 3" DLC "Blood Dragon". Visually, the mishmash of nineties cartoon and cyberpunk aesthetics is sometimes reminiscent of "Cyberpunk Edgerunners".

The series features characters from various Ubisoft franchises - including "Assassin's Creed", "Watch Dogs" and "Raving Rabbids". "Captain Laserhawk" is produced by Adi Shankar, who has already realised the "Castlevania" anime on Netflix.

By the way: Ubisoft currently has two more series in production: a "Splinter Cell" anime and a live-action series in the "Assassin's Creed" universe.

"Tom Clancy's The Division: Resurgence": Tactical shooter action in mobile format

Ubisoft's free-to-play shooter promises a fully-fledged "The Division" gaming experience on mobile devices. The publisher showed a new CG trailer at the showcase. It looks nice, but says nothing about the game. According to hands-on previews, the game plays pretty well.

There will be another beta test phase before the launch in autumn. You can register for this on the game's official website.

Released for: iOS, Android
Release: Autumn 2023

"Skull and Bones": Another closed beta

Ubisoft is only showing a few new gameplay impressions of the piratesque game "Skull and Bones". At least there is a sailor song with a catchy tune guarantee.

Another closed beta for the game will start in August. You can register for the test phase on the game's official website.

"Skull and Bones" has had a turbulent development. The game has been in development since 2013 (!). It was first unveiled at E3 2017 and has since been postponed six (!) times. There is no concrete release date for this year.

"Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Rayman DLC": Rayman is back!

The Mario and Rabbids crossover game is getting a story expansion later this year. However, apart from a short CG trailer, Ubisoft showed nothing at its showcase. What a shame.

"Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope" is an excellent strategy game that I can highly recommend to any Nintendo and tactics fan.

"Riders Republic: Skate Add-on": New sport for the extreme sports game

"The Crew Motorfest": Competition for "Forza Horizon"

In "The Crew Motorfest" you race through the open game world of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. There are heaps of tasks to complete as part of the "Motorfest" racing festival. Sound familiar? The concept and visuals of the game are very reminiscent of the "Forza Horizon" racing game series.

The game certainly looks pretty. It won't be too long before you can get behind the virtual steering wheel yourself.

"Assassin's Creed Nexus VR": sneaking and murdering in virtual reality

Have you always wanted to slip into the shoes of an Assassin? Then "Assassin's Creed Nexus VR" is the game for you.

You play the first VR game in the "Assassin's Creed" game series entirely from a first-person perspective. With all the running and jumping, you'll need a strong and VR-tested stomach.

"Assassin's Creed Codename Jade": The mobile game looks impressive

The ambitious mobile game "Assassin's Creed Codename Jade" was officially unveiled last year. At the showcase, Ubisoft showed new impressions of the free-to-play game

The game is set in China at the time of the Qin Dynasty. In the "Assassin's Creed" timeline, it is positioned between "Odyssey" and "Origins". The short gameplay snippets in the trailer look impressive. Many "Assassin's Creed" fans are disappointed that the game will only be released on mobile - especially because the fanbase has long wanted an "Assassin's Creed" game in China.

You can sign up for a beta test phase on the game's website.

Released for: iOS, Android
Release: tbd

"Assassin's Creed Mirage": A tribute to the original games

In addition to VR and mobile spin-offs, Ubisoft is also showing new impressions of the next "Assassin's Creed" mainline game. According to the development studio, "Mirage" is a homage to the original games. This means a smaller map, fewer RPG elements, less action, but more stealth, parkour and murder.

You take on the role of a street thief who has to flee Baghdad "after an act of deadly retribution". He joins an ancient organisation and begins his career as an assassin.

The game is also visually reminiscent of the first "Assassin's Creed" games. Fans of the first hour can therefore look forward to a nostalgic journey through the early days of the series.

Released for: Playstation, Xbox, PC
Release: 12 October 2023

"Star Wars Outlaws": Open game world à la "Grand Theft Auto"?

The open-world "Star Wars" game has already been teased with a CG trailer at the Xbox Showcase. Now there are first gameplay impressions of the game. And they look very promising.

You take on the role of Kay Vess - an outlaw villainess. The game is set between "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi". Together with her cute alien companion Nix, Kay works with various crime syndicates to plan heists and earn credits. In the course of the story, she develops into "one of the most wanted people in the galaxy".

The gameplay excerpt shown suggests that the game will focus heavily on stealth and shootouts. Kay can count on the help of Nix in both stealth and shooting modes. The cute creature can distract enemies, attack and activate switches, among other things.

The game also includes a wanted system à la "Grand Theft Auto". If Kay gets carried away, she will be hunted by the Empire. To escape the pursuers, the protagonist can get behind the wheel of various vehicles and spaceships.

Interesting side note: The game is being developed by Massive - the same development studio responsible for the open-world "Avatar" game. That's two huge projects that the studio has to manage at the same time. Will that work out well?
